The Hispanic Association of Women of Lubbock (H.A.W.) is a non-sectarian, non-partisan, non-profit association, incorporated in March, 1983.  Members are comprised of all walks of life.  Membership is open to any individual or corporation who supports the goals, purposes and objectives of the organization.
 
The purpose of the association is to organize all Hispanic women in order that they might:
  • •Promote educational opportunities.
  • •Define issues of concern to Hispanics.
  • •Establish a collective effort to resolve problems and counter barrier.
  • •Act affirmatively to promote full and equal participation in political, social and economic areas.
  • •Promote opportunities for the development of leadership skills.
  • •Form coalitions with other groups who share mutual concerns.
The Association addresses many areas of concern by sponsoring various projects:
Education
•Provide annual scholarships for continuing education for Hispanic females.
•Partner with other organizations from the community. (Raiders Rojos, LHCC, Lulac Commission for Women)
•Hispanic Convocation – serve as hostesses
•Act as mentors to other women and girls

Community

•Fiestas del Llano participation.
•City of Lubbock board positions and other civic organizations.
•Adopt families to provide help with school supplies, Christmas gifts and holiday meals.
•Ongoing fundraising activities to fund annual projects.
•Sponsor the annual Hispana of the Year Banquet.
•Provide and promote political forums and voter registration drives.
•Participate in city activities such as Cesar E. Chavez celebration, Miracle on 19th Street, Race for the Cure, Back to School Fiesta
 
Personal Growth
•Provide workshops on health, wellness, stress management and enhancing self-esteem.
•Texas Women’s Conference – members are encourage to attend
